Rain Sim

This week in class we worked on a rain simulation. It went pretty smoothly. I only had one small problem. When I created the rain emitter, I scaled it too large and it went past the image plane. When I was setting up my scene and lining everything up I didn’t realize this oversight. This caused problems with the compositing. When I started placing all of the layers together, the rain drops past the image plane were still rendering and it looked pretty funny, I had rain bouncing off of invisible ground. It was a simple fix, I just moved everything forward and it worked fine. Over all I was happy with the outcome. With some small tweaking I think it could look pretty believable. I was doing some more research on rain and came across this simulation:

  1. I am really impressed with some of the work that I have seen in Realflow. I would like to get some copies of the software at some point. It does a GREAT job with liquids-- much better than Maya.
